Online Casino Seeking Web Server Alternative
11 Oct 2006
Trading in World Gaming shares was suspended yesterday after the internet gambling group sounded a warning that it could be left out of business by a ban from operating in the US. A prior US congress decision to outlaw credit card companies and banks settling payments to online gaming sites in the US in effect turned off more than 95 per cent of World Gaming’s revenues.
The company had until recently, been the subject oft takeover talks with Sporting bet, but the suspension of trading, citing a" fundamental uncertainty" over its ability to continue trading. This will force Sporting Bet, who had ties with world gaming involving Antiguan web servers, to seek alternative web server providers willing to be linked to the controversial industry.
Sporting Bet Sports book and other US-facing bookmaking and casino websites all operate on World Gaming servers in Antigua. Only its Paradise Poker site is operated separately.
